Varicose Veins

Varicose Veins are usually the bulging or swollen superficial veins in the thigh, leg, foot and underside of the knee joint in one or both the legs causing dull aching pain, heaviness, cramps, numbness, swelling, burning sensation in the foot, pigmentation, itching, loss of skin texture, loss of distal leg hair, papery skin, itching leading to ulcers and sometimes spontaneous blood due to rupture of blood vessels on scratching.

These are the veins which carry the deoxygenated or dark blood from the legs upward for oxygenation. Due to weakening of these vein vessel valves unable to push the blood. Upwards, pooling of the blood or stagnation of the blood happens. Over a period of time the thickness or viscosity of the blood increases leading to retention and reverse or reflux of the blood leading to grossly dilated vessles starting in the lower leg and extends upwards to thigh.

As the age grows, Veins may start losing the elasticity which may cause stretch. Valves may become weaker allowing the blood flow backward. The blood may retain the veins and may become varicose carrying the bluish or red color.
It is more of a profession related condition. Common in people who stand for long time like teachers, policemen, bus drivers and people with sedentary life style.
Obesity
At the time of pregnancy, blood volume increases but flow from your leg to the pelvis may reduce. It may get worse when the uterus exerts more pressure in the veins, although chances are there of getting recovering after the 3-12 months of the delivery. Hormonal changes may also play a vital role in this.

Treatments

The method is used to treat the small or spider veins. A solution/ chemical is injected to fade away the varicose veins or to create scars in the tissue. This is one of the innovative methods to treat the small superficial veins.

It includes the preventive measures which may help not to increase the veins problems such as:-

  • Exercising regularly
  • Losing extra Weight (applicable for Obese People)
  • Avoiding wearing tight clothes
  • Elevating your legs
  • Do to sit or stand for long hours
  • Compression Stockings (squeeze your legs, helping leg veins to flow blood more efficiently)

One of the most effective and less painful methods to treat the large varicose veins and spider veins. In this process, a Strong burst of the diode laser is inserted through probe into a vein which causes steam bubbles generation from boiling the blood in lumen causing heat injury to the vein wall, leading to the closure of vein. One should prefer Laser Varicose Vein Treatments because of the given benefits:

  • Latest and Advanced Treatment methods
  • Daycare or outpatients Procedure
  • Less painful or minimal postoperative pain
  • Minimal Tissue Injury and blood loss
  • No Incisions required

It involves High Ligation or Vein Stripping in which vein is tied before it joins a deep vein and removing through small incisions. Some People may even go home the same day.
